Day 1

Kigali

Welcome to Africa! Upon arrival in Kigali , a representative meets you. Transfer to your hotel in Kigali for an overnight stay in the comforts of a hotel as per the itinerary. Stay is on a bed and breakfast basis.

Day 2

Akagera National Park

Enjoy a tasty breakfast and drive to Akagera National Park, in the eastern part of Rwanda. Enjoy a tasty lunch and proceed on to an afternoon game drive at the park. Chance upon sights of hippos, crocodiles as well as shoebill stork, African fish eagle and more. Get to see buffaloes, elephants drinking water from the water ponds and a variety of bird species. Return to the lodge of your booking for dinner and an overnight stay. Overnight at the lodge on a full board basis.

Day 3

Akagera National Park

After a delicious breakfast enjoy a morning and afternoon game drive of the national park. Enjoy a boat cruise on Lake Ihema with sights of waterbirds in flight. Catch a glimpse of papyrus gonolek, shoebill stork and more that have made the lake their home. You also see amazing waterfowls such as ducks, geese, swans, and other water birds hovering in and around the lake. Return to your lodge, as per the booking, enjoy dinner and an overnight stay. Accommodation is provided on a full board basis.

Day 4

Nyungwe National Park

Enjoy an early breakfast and proceed on a drive to Butare stopping en route in Nyanza. Visit here the palace of Mwami, an ancient hilltop palace that was home to the Mwami (Rwanda king). Enjoy lunch at a restaurant in Butare and proceed onwards to reach Nyungwe National Park. The park is one of the oldest rainforests in Africa. Be amazed by the rich and varied biodiversity and the vast area of rainforest. Drive through the spectacular mountain rainforest to reach the lodge late afternoon. Enjoy dinner and retire for the night. Overnight stay in the lodge as per the itinerary on a full board basis.

Day 5

Nyungwe National Park

After breakfast, head out on a chimpanzee tracking expedition. The park is home to many species of chimpanzees. Catch the thrill of an encounter with one, a moment that will be frozen in your mind forever. Spend the afternoon at leisure or choose to book a Colobus Monkey Trek, Canopy Walk or Bird Walk (at extra costs). Overnight stay at your lodge after dinner as per the itinerary. Stay is provided on a full board basis.

Day 6

Gisenyi / Lake Kivu

After breakfast, enjoy the morning at leisure. You have a choice of options again between the Colobus Monkey Trek, Canopy Walk or Bird Walk (at extra costs). Enjoy being in the home of the chimpanzees, owl-faced and colobus monkeys. The Canopy Walkway is a high suspension bridge with views of the surrounding forests and valleys. Return to your hotel for dinner and an overnight stay. Overnight at Lake Kivu Serena Hotel on a full board basis.

Day 7

Gisenyi / Lake Kivu

After a tasty breakfast, spend time at leisure by Lake Kivu. This is the strongest body of water in Africa. It is one of the greatest lakes in East Africa. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at Lake Kivu Serena Hotel on a full board basis.

Day 8

Ruhengeri

After an early breakfast, proceed on a drive to reach Ruhengeri at the Volcanoes National Park. This is the base from where you start on a thrilling track of a habituated gorilla group, that you are assigned. You begin the track with a briefing and set out with the guide to search for Mountain Gorillas in the forest.

Once you have found your group, the fascination reaches a crescendo. The excitement of watching your group interact with each other lasts for about an hour. Return by foot to meet your driver in the foothill and transfer to the lodge for a tasty lunch. Enjoy the rest of the day, have a sumptuous dinner and overnight stay at the lodge (as per the itinerary) on a full board basis.

Day 9

Ruhengeri

After breakfast, spend the morning at leisure. You also have an option to go on a second Gorilla Trek or set out on a Golden Monkey Trek (permits are not included and are extra). Enjoy another day journeying along forested slopes, bushes, bamboos and entwined vines. Eventually, reach the gorillas and feel the adrenaline rush again. Return to the lodge for a warm lunch and and afternoon at leisure. Eat tasty dinner and have a restful night in the lodge (as per the itinerary) on a full board basis.

Day 10

Departure

After breakfast, transfer to the Kigali Airport to connect with your onward flight back home. (Flights have to be booked after midday). Take along astonishing memories of an adventure in Rwanda.
