Moscow's history starts from the fortified complex in the center of Moscow, The Moscow Kremlin. It was the capital at the start of the 14th century. After the capital was moved to St. Petersburg, it was renamed as Tsardom of Russia by Peter I. Then, Moscow serves as the capital of the free independent state to date. Moscow is situated on the bank of the Moskva River. During the 16th and 17th century the city was separated into 5 divisions. The names of 5 divisions were Kremlin (fortress), Kitaigorod (walled town) Bely Gorod (white town), Zemljani Gorod (earthworks town), and Miestchanskygorod (bourgeois town).

The history of colonization in Moscow dates to the Neolithic period. Discovery of late evidence was found on the Kremlin, sparrow hills and other territories. 1147 is the initial reference date of Moscow, then it was a minor town on the Western Border. At the time of the Mongol Invasion, the city was burned, and the inhabitants were killed in 1156.

Daniel the youngest son of Alexander Nevsky ruled Moscow as Grand Duke until 1303 and entrenched the thriving city. Later, Moscow attracted refugees from all over Russia.
