Though internet cafes are few, the price averages at about $0.73 to $1.25 per hour of usage. Phuket was exposed to western effects due to the location on trading routes between India and China. The influence initially impacted Phuket before any other part of Thailand. Ships used to take a pause in the safe and calm harbors of Phuket before proceeding ahead.

Chinese New Year

Also known as Buddha Day, this is a day to celebrate Buddha's birth, enlightenment, and death. Winter Solstice Festival
Locally titled "Dong Zhi" in Mandarin, and "Tang Check" (arrival of winter) in Hokkien, this must-see Chinese Festival is held to offer gratitude for a good harvest. Usually celebrated between the 21st and the 23rd of December, this the longest night of the year in the northern hemisphere. Locals eat "Kueh Iee" or round confectionary- delicious rice flour balls soaked in sugar syrup as a part of the festivities.

Via Metro
Using the metro is a preferred means of transportation in the Kuala Lumpur city. There are 3 main lines (RapidKL, KTM Komuter, and KL Monorail). The LRT stations have clearly marked maps and tickets can be purchased at either the machines or counters. There are special day passes available or you can invest in a "Touch 'N Go" prepaid card. The cost of traveling via the metro between connecting stations is $0.30.

The KL Monorail runs straight through the city center, whereas RapidKL and KTM Komuter have routes that connect the city center with the suburbs. The hours of operation are between 6 a.m. and 12 p.m., with a new train arriving every 3 to 4 minutes.

Via Bus
If your destination is not easy to reach via the metro, the bus is the next best alternative available. Departing from every LRT station, these are scheduled for frequent departures and cost a few cents. The tickets can be purchased by paying the driver (carry small change), or at the machine. The only cons are that it is difficult to find up-to-date bus schedules, maps, and routes.

Via Taxis
Convenient but expensive, taxis are available all over the Kuala Lumpur city. Do remember to ask the driver to turn the meter on to avoid being overcharged. Average trips within the city center will never cost more than $4. After midnight, there is an additional surcharge of 50% on the regular fare. So, plan your travel accordingly.

Via Rent A Car
Car rentals can be found in the city and at the airport too. Ensure that you rent a GPS device from the service operator. City driving is slow yet aggressive so exercise caution. There is a high volume of motorcyclists that tend to squeeze through the gaps between cars during stoplights, this makes changing lanes tricky especially for new drivers.

Via Plane
Kuala Lumpur has two main airports: Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is the primary international gateway, and Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA2) is the world's largest airport for budget airlines. Some of these include Cebu Pacific Air, Singapore's Tiger Airways, and Indonesia's Lion Air.

Both are located in Sepang about 35 km away from the city center, and the rail-based network enables easy accessibility for passengers.

Via Air Route
Kuala Lumpur International Airport is the main airport for Kuala Lumpur city. It is extremely well connected to the world with destinations such as Beijing, Delhi, Manila, London, Singapore, etc. being easily accessible. Some of the key airlines with service to this airport include Air China, Air India, AirAsia, All Nippon Airways, British Airways, Jetstar Asia Airways, etc.

Via Rail Route
Malaysia is serviced via the KTM or Keretapi Tanah Melayu railways. The old railway station of the city is Kuala Lumpur Railway Station, whereas the new one is the KL Sentral Railway station. Both international (Singapore, Thailand, Kota Bharu, etc.) and domestic trains use these stations as a stopover. Via Road Route
With the North-South Expressway and East Coast Expressway passing through the city, reaching Kuala Lumpur is easy.

Via Water Route
Kuala Lumpur is not directly accessible via waterways. However, reaching Port Klang from Indonesia is a fun experience. The distance from here to the city is a short 40 km, or approximately a 90-minute bus or taxi ride depending on the traffic.
