NETWORK / CONNECTIVITY
The internet is growing, and the services are getting better in Kazakhstan. The early period of 2000 gave rise to internet usage and the number of users reached up to 1 million. Kazakhstan has five International ISPs. The data flow or internet traffic reached up to the penetration levels of 75 % in 2019, with more than 10 million users.
Russian is the most popular internet language in Kazakhstan, followed by Kazakh and then English. Kazakh Telecom, one of the ISPs reported a continuous increase in the subscription of data services. Today, many industries, hospitals, and schools in the urban sector use the internet daily. Several ISPs are Kcell (3G), INTELSOFT (cable), AlmaTV (cable access), Beeline (3G, cable), DigitalTV (WiMax), Nursat, Sekatel, SputTV (satellite access), 2Day Telecom (dial-up) and many more.
Internet censorship is still in progress, so parent surveillance is always recommended. The internet prices are available in varied ranges with affordable packages and efficient speed and connectivity. Kazakh Telecom's fee for unlimited ADSL access with a capacity of 128 Kbit/s was US$30.
The competition in the internet sector has increased since 2007 and 2009. Broadbands are coming up with better offers, schemes, services, connection, and speed. More and more towers are set up daily. The plan is to connect rural areas with the internet facility as much as possible. The work is in progress and the existing services providers are improving at a very fast rate.
For travelers, the developed areas like Almaty and Astana are a better option to get better internet facilities. There are many public Wi-Fi spots available in spots such as bus stops, train stations, airports, and many other public areas. The speed is better on a clear weather day. It is recommended to use the free services more and hook up to the local numbers for better connectivity. Also, use online portals and applications (Skype, Instagram, Twitter, and others) to stay-in-touch with your loved ones.
