Day 1
Arrival in Geneva
Day one of the Swiss journey will begin with your arrival at the Geneva International Airport. Post arrival meet up with your tour representative who will facilitate your transfer to your hotel in Zermatt. The evening will see you heading out for a walking tour of the city of Zermatt. The evening tour will start at the pyramid of the Matterhorn that dominates the centre of the city and lies in the Nikolaital Valley. The surrounding mountains have been a major factor in the development of this old mountain village, discovered a century ago by the British. It was here back in 1855 that a resort was built here by the Seilers, who were into the business of hotel keeping.
The location of Zermatt is a popular and important mountaineering centre with over a dozen peaks of over 4,000 meters in height, which are easily accessible from the resort. The resort is free of any motor carriages that may cause any harm to the surrounding region, for transport electric and horse-driven carriages are employed.
Day 2
Gornergrat Railway experience
Day two will begin with a transfer to the Gornergrat Railway, which is one of the highest open-air railways in Europe offering mesmerizing views of Zermatt. On the way, the train will pass by the Riffleberg station, where your eyes will be greeted by a breathtaking view of the Matterhorn. You will also be able to witness Monte Rosa and its glacier in all its glory. Further ahead you will pass by Valais and the numerous stretches of icy canals stretching down from the glacier. Post this you will ascend to Hohtalli and then to Stockhorn via two successive cable car rides. You will also have the option of hiking from Gornergrat to Hohtalli if you like to do make things a little adventurous.
Day 3
Zermatt – Montreux
Day three of the tour will start with your Private transfer to the Visp train station to board the train from Visp to Montreux. On arrival in Montreux, you will be given a private transfer to the hotel in Montreux, with the rest of the day at your own leisure.
Day 4
Saint Maurice and Martigny Tour
Day four will start with a tour of Saint Maurice, after your breakfast at the hotel in Montreux. Saint Maurice is home to one of the oldest surviving abbeys in the world. This tour will enlighten you about the history of the abbey and its present importance even after 1,500 years of its construction. Next, we will visit the small town of Martigny which lies on the Rhone's elbow in the lower Valais, which is home to the routes across Simplon, Great St. Bernard and Forclaz. Some of the prominent features of the region include its rich cultural and historical heritage, its Mediterranean essence and the mouth-watering delicacies that one will get to savour here.
The history of Martigny’s dates back almost 2,000 years, which tells tales of the Celtic tribes, the Romans and Napoleon's legion that once settled in this region. Witness the beauty of the restored amphitheatre, Roman thermal baths and temples, and the most important cultural attraction in Martigny, the Pierre Gianadda Foundation. The next stop will be at the Gallo Roman Museum which houses a car museum and annually holds two art exhibitions showcasing masterpieces of some world-famous artists. The museum was built on the ruins of an old ancient Roman temple.
Day 5
Montreux- Neuchatel
After the morning breakfast, you will be transferred to your hotel in Neuchatel. In the evening we will move out for a walking tour of Neuchatel. The tour will include the exploration of the pretty town of Neuchatel and the impressive Collegiate Church and the castle. You will also be able to explore the eateries and local markets at your own leisure.
Day 6
Creux Du Van Tour
Day six will witness you heading out for a tour of Creux Du Van, which is a natural rock arena of massive proportions that lies on the borders of Neuenburg and Vaud. The valley basin is surrounded by 160 meters of high rock faces from all sides with the valley itself stretching over 4,000 meters in length and 1,000 meters in width. The first glaciers to break loose in the region shaped the rocks in the valley which date back 200 million years.
During the tour, you will get the opportunity to go underground as you enter the ‘Grotte De La’, which is a popular cascade cave in the region. After exploring the cave you will have the opportunity to taste the world-famous ‘Raclette du Valais’, which is one of the most popular dishes in Switzerland.
Day 7
La Chaux-de-Fonds City Tour
Day seven will see you heading out to La Chaux de Fonds, which is a popular watchmaking town in Switzerland. You will be taken on a walking tour of the city, while you take in the history, culture, traditions and cuisine of the town.
Day 8
Departure
The final day of the tour will allow you will be taken to the Geneve Internation Airport for your flight back to your home country, with memories of a wonderful vacation in Switzerland that would last for a lifetime.
